In 2020, I collaborated in the development of a game designed to simulate the process of curating an exhibition at Venice Biennale.

Background

In 2018, as part of 🦁🦄 collective, I co-founded Russian Virtual Pavilion – free, independent and open platform, a space for exhibitions in the mediums of virtual and augmented reality.

On the 25th of May 2018, the VR installation Free the Space at the Venice Biennale of Architecture 2018 launched the activity of the Virtual Russian Pavilion — a free, independent and open platform for regular exhibitions in the mediums of virtual and augmented reality.

In 2020, on occasion of the 17th edition of the Biennale, our group was invited to contribute to the official Russian Pavilion, which took a digital format due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Concept

The chatbot exposes a complex internal mechanism of big cultural events like the Biennale, and reveals their limitations and possibilities, urging for a more meaningful and open model of organising such institutions.

The user can choose three missions to play: a participating artist, the commissioner, or an intern working at the Pavilion. From these three unique perspectives the user takes on mini quests that, step-by-step, bring the exhibition closer to reality. Every choice you make and the way you respond to everyday issues can change the final outcome of the project beyond recognition.

🦁🦄 is an independent group that was founded in 2018 by Anton Kalgaev, Ivan Kuryachiy, Karina Golubenko, Liza Dorrer, Maria Kachalova, Maria Kosareva and Pekka Airaxin.
